The University of Manitoba is seeking a Director for its Centre on Aging effective July 1, 2004. Position Number: AAT 433. The Centre on Aging is an established research institute with a national and international reputation in a diversity of areas related to aging, including such topics as: health and social service use, medications, transportation, caregiver issues, housing, consumer behaviour, labour market issues, and the humanities. The Centre is interdisciplinary in scope and involves University researchers from a variety of academic disciplines. The University of Manitoba provides baseline funding to the Centre and the Director reports to the Vice-President (Research). The Centre has established a network of stakeholders who share and support the same fundamental values and a commitment to improve the quality of life of older adults. These stakeholders include researchers, students, policymakers, practitioners, and the general public.

Position Responsibilities:

The Director is responsible for overseeing all activities of the Centre on Aging, including personnel, research and community outreach programs and budgets. The individual is expected to carry out an active personal program of research and stimulate and encourage research in aging throughout the University. Teaching load is negotiable. The appointment would be for an initial term of 5 years.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:
1. a recognized national/international program of research in aging;

2. demonstrated ability to secure external research support;

3. demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals interested in aging, including researchers, staff, organizations, government and agencies at local, provincial and national levels; and

4. demonstrated ability to foster research training and educational outreach activities in aging among colleagues within the academic community and beyond.

The search is limited to persons who currently hold a full-time tenured, tenure-track or contingent (5 years or more) academic appointment at the University of Manitoba at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor. Administrative experience in an academic setting will be considered an asset.
