University Teaching Services (UTS) invites applications for the full-time position of Associate Director. Position Number: AKM 727

UTS is a collegial faculty development unit that offers a wide range of programs to enhance teaching and learning at the U of M. The tasks of the Associate Director fall into three major areas: 1) developing and implementing faculty development programs; 2) consulting with administrators, faculty, and graduate students on teaching and learning issues; and 3) the synthesis and dissemination of research on teaching and learning.

Specific duties of the Associate Director will vary with the needs of the diverse UTS constituencies. However, primary responsibilities will include:

- planning, organization, and development of UTS workshops, including custom workshops requested by departments and groups within the University;

- consulting with individuals, academic units and committees on how teaching, courses, and programs can be enhanced;


- enhancing the teaching development resources available to new faculty members ;

- collaborating with UTS staff to plan and implement other UTS initiatives such as the UTS Teaching and Learning Symposium and Lunch-Hour Discussion Groups;

- conducting research to support the development of UTS programs;

- disseminating research and best practices in university teaching through the UTS Newsletter , university and conference presentations, and other print and electronic means; and

- preparation of grant proposals to support faculty development initiatives.

Applicants should have a record of strong teaching abilities. Previous experience in faculty development activities is an asset. A Ph.D. is the preferred academic qualification. Proven interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.
