The Asian Studies Centre, Faculty of Arts, University of Manitoba, invites applications for the position of Director, beginning 1 July 2004. Position Number: AKT 849. The term of the appointment is negotiable. Applicants must already hold a full-time tenured or probationary appointment in the Faculty of Arts. The duties of the Director include the day to day supervision of the Centre’s teaching and research mandates, preparation and monitoring of the Centre’s annual budget, preparation of the timetable, promotion of the Centre’s interdisciplinary work, and such administrative responsibilities as are delegated by the Dean.

The Director is expected to work collegially and to consult effectively with the Asian Studies Advisory Council to coordinate their programs and activities. The position demands a person with cross-regional interests and innovative approaches to encouraging and fostering research and scholarship on Asian topics. A willingness to engage in external fund-raising would be an asset, as would previous administrative experience.
