Incumbents at this level are responsible for the receipts and control of funds on a University wide basis. They are also responsible for maintaining the records relative to these duties.

They are responsible for the supervision and training of a group of cashiers within a University department. The incumbents at this level are required to use initiative and work independently under the general direction of a supervisor.


  • Issues, receipts, controls and keeps safe funds received either directly or from various sources throughout the University.
  • Performs those duties of junior cashiers, as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate receipt and disbursement records both for individuals and departments.
  • Prepares reconciliation and recapitulation sheets for funds received and deposited.
  • Maintains a petty cash fund which is balanced and reimbursed on a regular basis.
  • Supervises and trains employees at a more junior level, as required.
  • Maintains records of cash register voids, errors and repairs, as required.
  • Maintains merchandise inventory records, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.


The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory) job performance are:

Level of Formal Education

High school completion with job-related options.


  • Three years related experience, two years of which should be equivalent to the Cashier 2 level.
  • Some positions require supervisory experience.
  • Some positions require experience operating a point-of-sale system .
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to supervise and relate well with others.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Analytical skills desirable.

Physical Requirements

Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
