Senate Motions for May 18, 2016


The following motions were approved by Senate at its meeting on May 18, 2016:


THAT the list of candidates recommended for degrees notwithstanding a deficiency be approved.

THAT the list of graduands provided to the University Secretary by the Registrar be approved, subject to the right of Deans and Directors to initiate late changes with the Registrar up to May 20, 2016.

THAT the report on medals and prizes provided to the University Secretary be approved by Senate.

THAT Senate approve:

  • the Report of the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Course Changes - Part A;
  • revisions to the Academic Schedule for 2016-2017;
  • the Report of the Senate Committee on Medical Qualifications RE:  Marta Carneiro de Moura;
  • the Report of the Executive Committee of the Faculty of Graduate Studies on Course and Curriculum Changes RE: Departments of Physiology and Pathophysiology, Plant Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics and Astronomy, Computer Science, Classics, and Philosophy [March 23, 2016].

THAT the minutes of the Senate meeting held on April 6, 2016 be approved as circulated.

THAT (subject to the following amendment) Senate recommend that the Board of Governors approve the Report of the University Discipline Committee concerning revisions to the Student Discipline Bylaw and related procedures, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT sections 2.17 and 2.17(a) of the Student Academic Misconduct Procedure and sections 2.19 and 2.19(a) of the Student Non-Academic Misconduct and Concerning Behaviour Procedure be amended to read, respectively:

2.17 [2.19] The Disciplinary Authority will conduct the investigation in accordance with the principles of procedural fairness and natural justice. In particular, the Disciplinary Authority will ensure that:

2.17(a) [2.19(a)] The Student must be informed of the allegations against him or her, including, subject to section 2.26 [2.34], having access to all documentary and other evidence relied upon by the Disciplinary Authority and knowing the identity of the complainant.

THAT Senate recommend that the Board of Governors approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Awards – Part B [dated April 5, 2016].

THAT Senate approve the Transference of External Grades policy, effective upon approval by Senate.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Admissions concerning a French Language Proficiency Requirement for International Students, for the Université de Saint-Boniface, effective for the September 2017 intake.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Admissions concerning Revised Admission Requirements for the Bachelor of Education Degree, Université de Saint-Boniface, effective for the September 2018 intake.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Admissions concerning a Revised Admissions policy for the Bachelor of Nursing Program, College of Nursing, effective for the September 2017 intake.

THAT Senate approve a proposal to modify the Preliminary Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, with curriculum changes to take effect for September 1, 2016, and revised admission requirements to take effect for the 2017 intake.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Course Changes concerning a proposal for a Bachelor of Arts (General Major) in Spanish [Baccalauréate ès arts avec majeure en espagnol], Université de Saint-Boniface.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Curriculum and Course Changes concerning revised terms of reference for the committee, as modified by the Senate Executive Committee (May 4, 2016), effective upon approval by Senate.

THAT Senate approve undergraduate course changes beyond nine credit hours in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Faculty Council of Graduate Studies [dated October 16, 2015] concerning graduate course changes beyond nine credit hours in the Department of Mathematics, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Faculty Council of Graduate Studies [dated February 12, 2016] concerning graduate course changes beyond nine credit hours in the Department of Mathematics, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Joint Senate Committee on Joint Masters Programs between the University of Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba concerning the Department of History, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Instruction and Evaluation concerning revisions to the regulations for the Dean’s Honour Roll, for the Bachelor of Science in Human Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Instruction and Evaluation concerning revised entrance, continuation, and graduation requirements for the Bachelor of Science (Joint Major) in Biochemistry and Microbiology, Université de Saint-Boniface, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Instruction and Evaluation concerning revised graduation requirements for the Post-baccalaureate Diploma in Education, Université de Saint-Boniface, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Instruction and Evaluation concerning revisions to the Professional Unsuitability Bylaw for Students in the Faculty of Education, effective September 1, 2016.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Rules and Procedures concerning revisions to the Extended Education Council Bylaw, effective upon approval by Senate.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Rules and Procedures concerning revisions to the Faculty of Arts Council Bylaw, effective upon approval by Senate.

THAT Senate approve and recommend that the Board of Governors approve a proposal from the I.H. Asper School of Business to establish a Master of Finance degree.

THAT Senate approve the Report of the Senate Committee on Nominations [dated April 26, 2016].
