1.0 Reason for Policy

The University of Manitoba recognizes that some students who plan to attend the University of Manitoba may have completed courses equivalent to first-year university courses and thereby qualify for advanced placement.

2.0 Policy Statement

2.1 The University has adopted a policy of granting upon admission to general, advanced and honours degree programs, advanced placement and credit for students who meet university approved minimum standards in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs which have been deemed by departments, faculties and schools as being equivalent to their first year courses.

2.2 A department and council which grants advanced placement also is required to grant credit.

2.3 The choice of whether of not toaccept advanced placement and credit is left to the student.

2.4 Faculties and Schools requiring previous university studies should reconsider their admission policies and procedures in light of the fact that some of their applicants may have earned advanced placement and credit and therefore may not have completed a specified course requirement.
