About UMAC

The University of Manitboa Actuarial Club (UMAC) is focused on developing a network for Actuarial Students at the University of Manitoba. Our goals are to create an awareness of developments in the actuarial field, and connect students with potential employers. We also organize many social activities that allow members to get to know each other, and have some fun while taking a break from studying. As a member of UMAC, you will be included in our annual resume book that is sent to over 150 companies in North America. In addition, we host the Annual Fish Dinner, which draws attendance from the professional community across Canada, and features a guest speaker from the industry. Take advantage of a great opportunity, learn about the SOA exams and meet some terrific people. If you have any questions, or would like to learn more about UMAC, visit us in room 123 Drake Centre or send us an email.

UMAC Services

UMAC offers it's members a number of exclusive services:

UMAC 101

First year actuarial students may be overwhelmed with information about courses to take, exams to write, and people to meet. UMAC has created this guide as a reference for all the facts a new actuarial student should know. You're eligible to receive a printed copy if you're currently in Interest Theory and have paid your UMAC fees - just pick it up from the UMAC office! If you're a paid UMAC member (but not in your first year), you can email Paul at pauljavery@gmail.com for an electronic copy.

Mentorship Program

The actuarial mentorship program is aiming to pair up 3rd and 4th year actuarial students (mentors) with newer students (mentees) to help them along their journey in becoming an actuary. Mentors can assist mentees with homework, career planning, and any other advice to assist in their general development. Our Kick Off Event is on Thursday, September 13th, for a BBQ.

Manual Exchange Program

This is a manual donation program where students are encouraged to drop off their actuarial manuals (ASM, Actex, CSM) or any other materials at the UMAC office to be used by other actuarial students. Students can take out a maximum of 2 manuals per year. We also encourage students to return them so other students can use them.
