The Access and Privacy Office offers a variety of privacy-related training sessions, both online and in-person.

Customized Online PHIA and Privacy Training Sessions:
This training session is for anyone associated with an office, unit or department within the Faculty of Health Sciences. This includes, but is not limited to: College of Dentistry, College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy.

This training session is for staff employed by the Office of Fair Practices and Legal Affairs.

This training session is for anyone associated with the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP), inlcuding those who will be accessing MCHP data for research purposes.

This training session consists of an online PHIA training module and pledge of confidentiality for all individuals taking part in a University of Manitoba research project. The successful completion of this training and pledge of confidentiality will satisfy the Research Ethics Boards (REB) requirements for PHIA training.
Note: All individuals involved in a UM research project that collects Personal Health Information MUST complete this training and sign a pledge of confidentiality, even if the individuals involved with the research project are not employed by or are a student of the University.

The WRHA PHIA training is also available to individuals through the University's learning management system, UM Learn. The online training contains a series of videos and a quiz. A score of 100% is required to pass the online training.
To determine if you are eligible to take the online WRHA PHIA training, send an email to email@example.com. If you are eligible, instructions on how to access the training will be sent to you.
General Online PHIA and Privacy Training:
This training session is for those who require the online PHIA training, but may not associate themselves with any of the customized sessions listed above.
Examples include, but are not limited to, Bison Sports, Human Nutritional Sciences, PEERS, Psychological Services Centre, Student Advocacy and Accessibility Services, Student Counseling and Career Services, University Health Services and the University Pharmacy.

This training session is for anyone associated with an office, unit or department that does NOT collect personal health information, or provide health services.
Examples include, but are not limited to, Information Services and Technology (IST), the University of Manitoba Bookstore, Parking Services, Student Life and Student Residences.

In-Person Training Sessions:

The Access and Privacy Office will provide in-person WRHA PHIA training sessions for those who require access to WRHA facilities or WRHA records as part of their studies or research.

The online training sessions are self-directed training tools designed to educate and inform you about your responsibilities under The Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and/or The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), and will enable you to sign the University of Manitoba's Pledge of Confidentiality.
Our office also provides in-person training sessions for individuals and groups.
