- Physics professors Kenneth Standing and Werner Ens are the first University of Manitoba professors to win the Encana Principal Award, the highest honour bestowed by the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation, which has been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada since 1982.
- Smartpark, the university’s research and technology park, creates high-tech clusters, facilitates university-industry research collaborations and innovation, and nurtures an environment and culture that assists in retaining highly skilled students and researchers in the region.
