  • Over the past decade, the university has garnered 8 Synergy Awards for Innovation, established by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada to recognize outstanding university-industry collaborations
  • Physics professors Kenneth Standing and Werner Ens are the first University of Manitoba professors to win the Encana Principal Award, the highest honour bestowed by the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation, which has been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada since 1982.
  • Smartpark, the university’s research and technology park, creates high-tech clusters, facilitates university-industry research collaborations and innovation, and nurtures an environment and culture that assists in retaining highly skilled students and researchers in the region. It’s home to companies in the fields of information and communication technology, engineering and advanced materials, health and biotechnology, and agricultural and nutritional sciences
  • Smartpark is home to 30 of Canada’s more innovative businesses, including several young companies in the eureka project: Smartpark’s Incubator
