Office of International Relations
The University of Manitoba supports the development of an international perspective throughout the university. Our commitment is to excellence in all our programs. We believe that the quality and effectiveness of our programs are increased by incorporating an international perspective. We have over 2500 international students enrolled in our undergraduate and graduate programs. These students add to the diversity of our campus and broaden the education of all students. We encourage domestic students to participate in international exchanges and internships, and offer courses and field schools abroad. The opportunities are here for students to appreciate other perspectives and cultures as a part of an excellent university education.
We are also a research intensive institution with collaborations throughout the world. At present we have over 300 international university partners. Some international collaborations have been going on for more than 25 years and have developed intellectual depth and high rates of research discoveries. We have research and development projects in all the major regions of the world. Many scientific discoveries made at the University of Manitoba and in partnership with others have made the world a better place. For example, our HIV/AIDS researchers are known world wide for their discoveries in basic science as well as their commitment to international program management and capacity building in Kenya, India and other countries. We continue that commitment through funding from a number of public and private sources, represented by such bodies as the Canadian International Development Agency, International Development Research Council, World Bank, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
We include equity and diversity, and responsibility to society as some of the values on which the mission of the university is built. And we believe that our commitment is to bring our expertise to the province, the nation and the world. Internationalization helps us achieve that goal.
