Teaching Excellence

 Mary Benbow

Early in her academic career, Mary’s passion for geography was sparked by teachers who shared that passion. So much so that Mary put aside her plans for art college and refocused her studies on the many aspects of geography and the environment. Today, as the Associate Dean of the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources, Mary inspires the same passion and intellectual curiosity in her students, connecting with them to create an unforgettable student experience.

"It is the student’s curiosity that carries the learning process along. So being enthusiastic about the subject matter and instilling that same enthusiasm within my students is what I strive for when teaching. I also strive to convey the importance of research, which is how new knowledge is created."
