What we offer

Animal Care and Veterinary Services

The university is committed to maintaining high standards of animal care and use in animal-based research and teaching. The university is in full compliance with the Canadian Council on Animal Care, which has certified that UM's animal care and use program is in accordance with the standards of Good Animal Practice.

Bannatyne campus human ethics protocols apply to research in the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Medical Rehabilitation Sciences, the affiliated teaching hospitals and their associated research foundations.

Human Ethics at Fort Garry campus

The University of Manitoba is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of humans participating in research studies. All research projects involving humans conducted at, or under the auspices of UM, require prior ethics review and approval by a Research Ethics Board.

Human Research Ethics Compliance

The Human Research Ethics Compliance Program operates to ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical standards, guidelines, and policies and applicable legislative and regulatory requirements. The program helps to foster a culture of compliance within the university by ensuring that research is conducted in a responsible manner.

UM Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

In accordance with the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Framework (2021), the UM strives to promote education and awareness on the responsible conduct of research by reporting on the number and nature of RCR breaches found with the intent of furthering the implementation of the UM Responsible Conduct of Research Policy and Procedure.
